Biography

A photographic journey with Andrew Nicolaou.

Sydney-based photographer Andrew Nicolaou has always been fascinated with light – how it bounces off surfaces, how it passes through materials, and the differences in colour depending on the time of day. From a young age, he found himself composing pictures visually and storing them away in his subconscious, perhaps for future use.

Flora, the land and the ocean are among the strongest influences on Andrew’s work, and his photography pieces often reflect his memories of a childhood spent frolicking in the ocean and exploring plants and flowers in his backyard (The Botanical Series). More recently, in Sub Zero, he has experimented with capturing objects in their frozen state, a collection that has a fascinating creative process. Each one of Andrew’s collections, whether coastal scenes, streetscapes, everyday objects and botany, commences as an exploration, with no definite end.

Andrew has been a featured artist at a number of art exhibitions.
